  Lukla air temperature

At the Lukla AWS the DMA572 Lsi-Lastem Thermohygrometer is mounted on a 2 m pole.

It is a probe for measuring air temperature and air relative humidity with replaceable sensitive element for simplify calibration and maintenance. LSI-Lastem supplies a precise and reliable set of probes, suitable for a continuous measurement in severe environments, in presence of deep thermal and hygrometric ranges with high sun radiant heat. An important feature of this set of sensor is that the thermohygrometric sensitive element is easily replaceable, in order to have a simple and rapid ordinary maintenance and avoiding calibration. The Thermohygrometer has supported a considerable improvement, owing to a deep technical and styling development process: a fan ensures a continuos air change around the sensor in order to eliminate temperature fault caused by radiant heat.

Purpose

The purpose of this resource in Lukla is to acquire data on:

- air temperature

- relative humidity

The data collected from stations like this one can provide an overall figure on changes in the climate and also can have important effects on agriculture.

Their interest was immediately appreciated internationally.

For example, the stations are included in the project of Share International CEOP (Co-ordinated Enhanced Obervation Period) World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which periodically collects data on the climate.

Statement

The station is included in the project of Share International CEOP (Co-ordinated Enhanced Obervation Period) World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which periodically collects data on the climate. The automatic weather stations (AWS) for monitor meteorological conditions are currently included in the SHARE network. An automatic weather station (AWS) is defined as a “meteorological station at which observations are made and transmitted automatically” (WMO, 1992a). In particular, in the framework of the SHARE project for all parameters, the data has been visually checked, looking for extremely and unusual low/high values and/or periods with constant values. The AWS in Lukla is a reference site in CEOP (Coordinated Energy and water Cycle Observation Project) under the WMO's initiative World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) - Global Energy and Water cycles Experiment (GEWEX).At the Lukla AWS the DMA572 Lsi-Lastem Thermohygrometer is mounted on a 2 m pole.
