  Equivalent Black Carbon

Continuous observations of the Black carbon [ng/m3]. The black carbon is measured by a Multi Angle Absorption Photometer (MAAP 5012). The measurements are carried out since March 2006.

Purpose
Continuous measurements of black carbon concentration in background conditions are important to determine source regions, elucidate the mechanisms of long range transport and validate both regional and global models. High-elevation monitoring sites provide important information on the not well-known free troposphere composition, in order to characterize its typical background conditions and investigate the influence of human activity on its composition. Measurements are performed in the framework of international monitoring program ABC - DISC(Atmospheric Brown Clouds Data and Information Service Center).

Statement
The black carbon content of the aerosols are continuously determined by simultaneously measuring the optical absorption and scattering of light by the particles collected on the filter tape. The combination of these two techniques provides a much truer measurement of the black carbon content. Measurements are performed in the framework of international monitoring program ABC – DISC (Atmospheric Brown Clouds Data and Information Service Center).
