- The station is included in the project of Share International CEOP (Co-ordinated Enhanced Obervation Period) World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which periodically collects data on the climate. The HMS 9000, developed by SDEC, France, is a soil moisture sensor for the measurement of water content in soil, based on the principle of the electrical capacity measurement. This device contains all its electronics in a tube with an external diameter of 22 mm. The sensor can be installed permanently in the soil and connected to a data logger for long-term, automated water-content measurements. The sensor allows measurements from 3 cm depth to several meters. This is possible due to the addition of simple leaf tubes. A small hole is made with an auger to the desired depth of measurement, and the sensor is installed in the hole. The sensor has a low consumption and depending on the power source can be in continuous use during several weeks without intervention. The probe also measures the soil temperature, for use in sensor temperature-compensation and as a stand-alone soil-temperature measurement.
