Sun Photometer
At the end of March 2006 a Cimel CE-318 sunphotometer was installed at The Nepal Climate Observatory - Pyramid (NCO-P) within the framework of the Aerosol Robotic Network, AERONET (http://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov, EvK2-CNR site). It provides a characterization of aerosol optical and microphysical properties of the air column above the station.

- Automated Cimel CE-318 sunphotometer was installed at the NCO-P on March 27, 2006, as part of the AERONET network. The Sun Photometer operates at seven wavelengths (340, 380, 440, 500, 670, 870, 940 and 1020 nm), performing both “direct sun” and “sky radiance” measurements. Data are continually sent via GMS Satellite to the AERONET headquarters at NASA - GSFC for processing. Standard products of the sun-pointing data analysis are aerosol optical depths (AOD) and related Angstrom exponents at all the wavelengths, plus precipitable water (PW) and aerosol fine mode optical depth (AODFM) at 500 nm. Two data versions (Versions 1 and 2) and three quality levels (Levels 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) exist for each product. While Levels 1.0 and 1.5 are provided in near real-time, the 12-month or longer delay (due to final calibration and manual inspection) ensures that the highest quality data can be found in Version 2, Level 2.0 data products. Version 2 AOD processing now includes fine and coarse mode AOD as well as fine mode fraction. The sunphotometer used is Cimel -Level 2.0. This instrument is the standard instrument used in the AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) international network.
