Purpose
The Relative Humidity [%] is measured by using a termohygrometer DMA572 during the 2008 expedition. Humidity measurements at the Earth’s surface are required for meteorological analysis and forecasting, for climate studies, and for many special applications in hydrology, agriculture, aeronautical services and environmental studies, in general. They are particularly important because of their relevance to the changes of state of water in the atmosphere.

Statement

In 2008 expedition, at South Col was installed the DMA572 termohygrometer, that was replaced during the 2011 expedition with two DMA672 termohygrometers and one DMA033 thermometer. All these sensors are manufactered by LSI-Lastem (Italy).

These measurements from the South Col could contribute to several studies concerning meteorology and climate changes in the region.

Information from this station can also help improve safety for Himalayan climbing expeditions, as it is to be integrated in the weather forecast of Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorological Forecasting Division.
